An explosion has gone off at a house in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo , as police were about to search it.
Police say a suicide bomber came out of the house in the Kotahena district of the city, as they were trying to gain entry, and set off the blast.
At least seven people were taken to hospital, including three police officers, but it is not yet clear whether there were any fatalities.
Police have blamed separatist Tamil Tiger rebels for the explosion.

39 Year old Priya Ramnath moved to the US in 1998 after allegedly injecting Patricia Leighton against colleagues' advice.
After arriving at Gatwick Airport she was arrested and charged with gross negligent manslaughter.

The Government's unveiling a new scheme, where immigrants will be marked on their skills and qualifications.
The new measures will do nothing to stem the influx from Eastern Europe - as they won't apply to those coming from within the EU.
The strengthening of theses immigration laws echo restrictions made to the law in 1968, which attempted to stem the number of Kenyan Asians permitted to enter the country.

A Southall student who was being bullied killed herself to end the torment of fellow pupils.
Naryam Mohammed threw herself in front of a train travelling at 125 miles per hour at Southall train station.
Perry Pandya reports:
Miss Mohammed who was studying for her A-levels at Greenford High School had told her mother she was being bullied.
The death has re-ignited the argument about health and safety at Southall train station.
In 2005 27 year old Navjeet Sidhu jumped in front of the Heathrow express with her two young children at the station.
Less than a year later her mother also committed suicide at the same spot.

Forty three year old Dr Parag Bhatt allegedly assaulted the women between January and August 2007 at the Rosehill Medical centre in Rotherham .
He is due before magistrates tomorrow and has not practised since the allegations were made last August.

At 12:23pm on Monday a young female teenager was killed at Southall station after being hit by a high speed train.
Her death is the latest at a station which has become known as a popular spot for young women to end their lives.
In 2005 Navjeet Sidhu killed herself and her two children by jumping in front of a train, and in 2006 her mother committed suicide in the same way.
Virendra Sharma, MP for Ealing and Southall, told Sunrise Radio he wants changes to be made to the station to prevent more tragedies occurring.

As the government has recently unveiled plans to review the teachings of sex education throughout the school curriculum, Asians continue to express concern about teaching their children about sex at a young age.
Ministers will now debate when and how sex education should be taught in schools, based on the recommendations put forward by the Independent Advisory group on Teenage Pregnancy and Sexual Health and HIV in 2006.
Children as young as five could begin a course about relationships and ultimately consider all aspect of sexual education.
According to Asian culture the idea of sex education in schools could be an upsetting prospect.

Zaheer Abbas and Munaj Choudhury were found with 39kg of heroin in the boot of their car, with an estimated value of £2 million.

A man has been sentenced to life for stabbing a teenager to death outside a takeaway.
22 year old Mahmud Maksoudian, was convicted at Manchester Crown Court of murdering a 16 year old Andrew Holland. He was also convicted of assaulting and seriously injuring another boy, also aged 16.
Maksoudian, will serve a minimum of 19 years in jail.

Their statements were made at a meeting held at the Darul-Uloom Deoband, a powerful Islamic school which is more than 150 years old.

The army's top surgeon, Lt Gen Mushtaq Baig, was one of three people killed by the attacker, who rammed his car into a military vehicle.

Mr Singh was found guilty of fraudulently claiming housing benefit, and awaits sentencing, which will be given in March.

A taxi driver who indecently assaulted a woman when she fell asleep in the back of his cab has been jailed for four years.
Karim Merali, from Stanmore, picked up the 30-year-old woman in Covent Garden in Central London , in his unlicensed taxi in September 2002.
He agreed to take her home to Sidcup for £20, but she fell asleep during the journey.
When she woke up, the 48 year old offender was kneeling over her; DNA tests revealed that she had been orally assaulted.

Police and immigration officers swooped on two warehouses and interviewed a number of workers.
A 25 year old Indian man was arrested.
He had been refused permission to stay in the country and had exhausted all appeals. A 22 year old Pakistani man was arrested. He told officers he had come to Britain 12 years ago.
Both men were taken into immigration custody and steps are being taken to remove them from the country, while their employers face prosecution and fines of up to £2,000.

Jacqui Smith was relaying the findings of an inquiry into the recording of Sadiq Khan at a jail in Milton Keynes .
The report found that Senior police officers who ordered the recording of the conversations didn't know who Mr Khan was, but five junior officers did.
And while it said there was no breach of protocol, the Tories said it still gave "considerable cause for concern".

Tony Singh fought back when Liam Kilroe, a renowned criminal ambushed him in his car after closing time.

Plans to move flight paths in and out of major British airports away from built up areas have been launched by the firm that manages UK air traffic.
National Air Traffic Services says its plans would cut by 20% the number of people affected by noise from departing planes flying below 4,000ft
Airports including Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and London City may be affected.
The new flight paths could be in place by spring 2009 if the Civil Aviation Authority gives Nats the go-ahead.

The husband of a murdered special constable was having an affair with a prostitute and living a double life, the Old Bailey has been told.
34 year old Fadi Nasri, had a "number of motives" for the murder which he is accused of organising.
29 year old Nisha Patel-Nasri was stabbed to death at her home in Wembley in May 2006.

A car that runs on air and releases no pollutants into the atmosphere at low speeds could be on sale in India by October.
Tata Motors unveiled the £1,250 Nano, the world's cheapest car, in January and said the new four-seater would roll out later in the year from its West Bengal factory.
Tata has said it will initially produce about 250,000 Nanos and expects eventual annual demand of one million units.

Mr Justice Mackay sentenced and jailed Shilesh Patel for life after a jury found him guilty of murdering Mr Haynes; following a clash between them at a local bar.
In a recent statement Mr Justice Mackay said, ‘to have no police presence when people are brawling, is a recipe for trouble'.

The number of female foeticide cases is the highest in the Punjab area.
Punjab is also the worst state in India on sex ratio in the age group of 0-6 years due to the rampant practice of female foeticide.
According to the United Nations Population Fund survey which gives the sex ratio figures till 2001, Punjab had an average of 875 girls for every 1000 boys in 1991 which came down 798 girls to every 1000 boys in 2001.
States including Rajsathan, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have a better child sex ratio in comparison to Punjab.

A man from Tower Hamlets will be sentenced in March after admitting an unprovoked assault on a teenager in Southall.
24 year old Lip Teck Chong, pleaded guilty at Isleworth Crown Court to assaulting a 16 year old boy outside the Himalaya Shopping Centre on December 4 th , last year.
The victim told police he was walking along The Broadway, when a man came up behind him and punched him in the back of the head, before punching him in the face.
Chong is due to be sentenced for causing actual bodily harm on March 17th.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Q has conceded defeat, and the opposition Pakistan People's Party is heading a coalition government with the Pakistan Muslim League-N, lead by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Wajis Hasan is a former advisor to Benazir Bhutto and spokesman for the Pakistan People's Party– he says the party have not yet decided whether to impeach President Musharraf, and do not want to act out of revenge.

A man who filmed his sex attack on a 14 year old girl on his mobile phone has been labelled a serious risk to young girls.
Former cricketer Ajmal Mohammad had driven the girl to Blackpool after meeting her in Accrington , given her alcohol and then abused her as she lay in a hotel room.
Over two or three hours, he carried out a series of sex offences on her, knowing he was infected with Hepatitis C.
The 40 year old, from Blackburn , was jailed indefinitely for public protection and will be serving a term of five and a half years. |

Authorities in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh say 11 Maoist rebels have been killed in heavy fighting with security forces in the state.
Six security personnel were also killed in the clashes.
The fighting comes days after battles between policemen and Maoist rebels in eastern Orissa state left a number of policemen and rebels dead.

Terror suspects placed under control orders have been given benefits including free phone calls, gas and electricity totalling almost three hundred thousand pounds in three years.
They are available for suspects under orders which prevent them working – such as a curfew of twelve hours or more.
Control orders are given to suspects who are considered a threat to national security but cannot be prosecuted by the courts.
Shadow Home Secretary David Davis has criticised control orders, saying they undermine fundamental freedoms without protecting the public. |

Gang violence involving up to 30 Asian Youths armed with offensive weapons erupted in the streets of west London over the weekend.
It's alleged two Sikh gangs armed ceremonial swords, pieces of wood and an axe were involved in clashes on western road in Southall.
A 36 year old male was taken to hospital with head injuries and three other males have been arrested in connection with the disruption.
Police have currently no idea what caused the disturbance.
